This is it — the first arboretum plant sale of the new academic year. The event is the Friends of the Â鶹´«Ã½ Arboretum's 33rd annual Plant Faire, on Oct. 6, with members only invited to shop from 7 to 9 a.m., joined by the general public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Not a member, or membership up for renewal? You are welcome to pay your membership fee the day of the Plant Faire and become immediately eligible to shop during the members-only sale.
Members receive a 10 percent discount on purchases. And, during the Plant Faire, new and renewing members will each receive a free plant plus $5 off the membership fee, cutting the cost to $10 for students, $35 for individuals and $55 for families.
Sale location is the arboretum nursery at Orchard Park, Orchard Road near
La Rue Road. Free parking in Lot 35 off Orchard Road.

Folk Music Jam — Play or listen. Noon Oct. 5 and 19, Wyatt Deck, adjacent to the redwood grove. Parking $6 in Lot 5, Old Davis Road and A Street.
Tour — Walk with Warren Roberts, the arboretum superintendent. Noon Oct. 10, gazebo, Garrod Drive. Parking $6 in Lot 55.
Creative writing — Opening Night: A Celebratory Reading with the Â鶹´«Ã½ Creative Writing Faculty. 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 10, Wyatt Deck.
Arboretum Adventures — Practicing Native Culture, with Maidu-Wintun-Hupa-Yurok cultural interpreter Diana Almendariz, sharing traditional plant knowledge through stories and hands-on activities. Learn to make a doll from tule reeds, and try your hand at grinding acorns. All ages welcome. 1–3 p.m. Oct. 14, Wyatt Deck.
Tour — Planning Your Garden to Conserve Water. 2 p.m. Oct. 14, gazebo. Free parking along Garrod Drive and in Lot 55.
Volunteer training — 9 a.m.-noon on consecutive Tuesdays, Oct. 16–Dec. 4 (no class Nov. 20). $55, or $45 for members of Friends of the Â鶹´«Ã½ Arboretum.
