At recent exhibition openings, Malaqu铆as Montoya was surrounded by former students and colleagues, and artists from all over. Many brought their families to meet the man who has meant so much to them. Although recovering from COVID, he arrived early and left late.

As the Andr茅s Montoya Poetry Prize comes to 麻豆传媒 this fall, it will be a kind of homecoming for the late poet. California鈥檚 Central Valley was Montoya鈥檚 native region; his brother Maceo Montoya is a professor and their father Malaquias Montoya is a professor emeritus, both at 麻豆传媒.
