Next Book Project Title is Memoir of Perilous Migration

The next title in the Campus Community Book Project is Solito: A Memoir, which tells the story of a 9-year-old’s solo journey from El Salvador to the United States to reunite with his parents.

Javier Zamora’s memoir was chosen for the book project’s 2025-26 theme, belonging. Over the next year, the campus community will be invited to participate in programming related to the theme and the book itself, culminating in a March 10 talk by the author at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

Connections Are Central at Black Futures Kickoff

The nearly 100 people who gathered on campus before a concert last weekend were there to celebrate the start of Black Futures Month, but they also shared a broader purpose: to celebrate a storied history and work toward creating a bright future for all through networking, student support and more.

�鶹��ý Honors 35 Years of the Principles of Community

Thirty-five years ago, a community of �鶹��ý students came together to define a shared set of values related to a sense of belonging and respect that would shape the university’s future. What started as a grassroots movement in Student Housing has since grown into a core part of �鶹��ý’ identity, culture and everyday interactions.

To mark this milestone, �鶹��ý is launching a 10-month-long commemoration starting this February under the theme “Principles of Community, by Community, for Community.”

�鶹��ý Campus Leadership Reaffirms the Principles of Community

They reaffirmed �鶹��ý’ Principles of Community, which underlie a learning and research environment in which people can be their authentic selves and contribute to the university and beyond.

�鶹��ý is celebrating its Principles of Community this week — the ideals that “keep us grounded in a spirit of mutual respect,” as Chancellor Gary S. May said during the opening ceremony Monday (Feb. 22).

“It means we find strength in our diversity and recognize the value we all bring to �鶹��ý, no matter what our background or point of view may be,” May said of the document, first signed in 1990.
