Web Site Migration

For those that have followed us right from our inception, we have been hoping to supply more than just WordPress themes and installs, we have also been wanting to offer other web-based products for your Website needs. So, our next service we are going to spotlight is website migration.

OK, this does sound like the websites migrate the same way as birds, but a bit more technical! If for whatever reason you need to move your website, whether you have found a cheaper alternative, you want more autonomy or want to consolidate your bill into one, there a few things that need to be done.

For example, you don’t have to stay with your Domain Name registrar, you can move it to someone else relatively easily, all you need to do is to first initiate the transfer, and have your EPP code or IPS tag. Depending on what TLD (Top Level Domain) such as .co.uk depends on which it is, for example, our IPS tag for .co.uk names is PDR-IN, and as it’s classed as an ‘internal transfer’ i.e. inside the UK, this is free of charge.

Moving your website is a bit more difficult, especially if it’s a WordPress site, as you have to download the whole website AND the database then reverses the process. It is relatively easy, but for this, you need your websites…

  • FTP Address
  • FTP Username
  • FTP Password
  • Database Address
  • Database Username
  • Database password

….for both your OLD and NEW hosting, things can go wrong during this process if not done correctly and can upset your sites SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) if you are not too careful.

If it’s a WordPress site, thankfully this process can be made easier…. But there is another way… Here at Guildford web Services Ltd, if you want to use our domain registration and/or hosting, so long as we have the necessary information, we can do this free of charge for you – we have 20 years’ experience in doing this, and are well aware of the pitfalls that can happen – most of the time it takes up to 48 hours (that’s only because the Internet has to do its bit) but can take a couple of weeks with some problematic sites – whatever the duration, it will always be a free migration!

And if it’s a WordPress site, once everything is calmed down – why not treat yourself and your site to a new premium theme!
